CIEH Environmental Management Certificate

 

 

Introduction

The need for organisations to address environmental issues has never been greater. Increasing legislation and the changing needs of lenders, investors and insurers are forcing them to focus on environmental performance. Organisations that do this will be more efficient and may get more favourable rates for borrowing and insurance. This qualification is designed to help managers to identify and manage the environmental effects of their businesses.

Who will benefit?

This programme is ideally suited to managers and supervisors who have duties within an existing environmental management system or who have been requested to develop an environmental management system for the first time.

Learning outcomes

Successful completion of the training programme and assessment will enable candidates to understand the:

  • Need to improve the environmental performance of a business
  • Format and relevance of UK and European Union legislation as it relates to environmental performance and legal compliance
  • Process entailed in reviewing policies and management procedures
  • Nature of an organisation’s environmental aspects and impacts
  • Purpose and stages of developing an environmental policy
  • Process of planning an environmental management programme
  • Practical techniques of environmental management
  • Need for, and techniques involved in, environmental awareness and management training
  • Different types of emergency and their impacts on the environment
  • Process and purpose of internal and external audits
  • Commercial reasons for producing an environmental report
  • Advantages and disadvantages of implementing an accredited environmental management system
  • Support that is available from environmental services

Assessment

Candidates are assessed by a written examination comprising 10 short-answer questions, three structured questions and a case study to be completed in three hours under examination conditions. Candidates who gain 75 marks and above will achieve a pass grade. Candidates who gain 105 marks or more will achieve a merit grade. Candidates who do not gain 75 marks will be deemed to have failed.
