CIEH Level 1 Award in Food Safety
(in Catering, Retail or Manufacturing)
Who will benefit?
This course is suitable for a variety of candidates, including new employees with minimal or no prior food safety knowledge, employees handling low-risk or wrapped food or those who work front of house, such as waiting or check out staff, as well as back of house such as kitchen porters or warehouse staff.
Learning outcomes
Successful completion of the training programme and assessment will enable candidates to understand:
- How to keep themselves clean and hygienic
- How to keep their work area clean
- The role they play in reducing contamination
Entry Qualifications and Progression
There are no entry qualifications for this course. Following this course you might wish to consider the CIEH Level 2 Award in Food Safety.

Venue
Courses may be held in house at your premises. We appreciate that it is sometimes difficult to release staff on training courses; therefore we offer the flexibility to hold the course either in the morning, afternoon or evening, to suit your business requirements. We also regularly run public courses at our training centres.
Duration
Half a day
We usually aim to start the course at 9am and finish by 5pm
Assessment
There is a short multi-choice test at the end of the course. Candidates are required to correctly answer 10 out of 15 questions in order to achieve a Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Level 1 Award in Food Safety in Catering, Retail or Manufacturing.
