CIEH Level 1 Award in Fire Safety Awareness

 

 

Introduction

This course is designed to help employees recognise fire safety issues in the workplace, and understand how to react when the fire alarm sounds.

Who will benefit?

This qualification will benefit anyone in a work environment as it provides candidates with an understanding of the key principles of fire safety, including measures to prevent fires occurring and actions to be taken in the event that a fire does break out. It is appropriate equally for those with no specific fire-safety role within the workplace and as an introduction for those who intend to move on to further fire-safety training. It will also benefit those who are starting a new job – as part of an induction programme.

Learning outcomes

Successful completion of the training programme and assessment will enable candidates to develop:

  • General knowledge and understanding of fire safety in the workplace
  • A foundation knowledge of the risk controls associated with fire in the workplace
  • Knowledge of the main types of fire safety equipment

Entry Qualifications and Progression

There are no entry qualifications for this course. Following this course you might wish to consider the CIEH Level 2 Award in Fire Safety Principles.

Assessment

The method of assessment is a multiple choice examination at the end of the course. Candidates are required to correctly answer 10 out of 15 questions in order to achieve a Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Level 1 Award in Fire Safety Awareness.

  • Main causes and effects of fires in the workplace
  • Duties and responsibilities (of employers, employees and fire wardens)
  • Procedures in the event of a fire
  • Actions to be taken in the event of a fire
  • Fire prevention measures
  • Fire risk management, including risk assessment
  • The fire triangle
  • Fire risk control measures (active and passive)
  • Reporting fire safety issues
  • Portable fire-fighting equipment
  • Simple checks of portable fire-fighting equipment

Venue

Courses are held at our training centres or alternatively can be held in house at your premises.

Duration

Half a day

We usually aim to start the course at 9am and finish by 12.30pm
