CIEH Level 3 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace
Who will benefit?
This course has been developed primarily to benefit those working in a supervisory position in order that they can acquire the knowledge and skills required to discharge their health and safety responsibilities. It is relevant to all employment sectors - for example, manufacturing, retail, catering and hospitality, healthcare and local government. It is also appropriate for those who are considering progressing on to the Level 4 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace.
Learning outcomes
Successful completion of the course and assessment will enable candidates to understand:
- The terminology used in respect of health and safety
- The benefits of ensuring high standards of health and safety in the workplace
- The principles of risk assessment and its role in a health and safety management system
- Key aspects of the UK legal system for health and safety and enforcement practices
- How to identify and control common workplace hazards
- The role of personal protective equipment in reducing risk
- The requirements for welfare provision in the workplace
- How to promote a positive health and safety culture
- The importance of consultation and good communication on health and safety
- The need to keep records relating to health and safety matters
- The means of monitoring and effectiveness of control measures
- The role of training in motivating safe behaviour and adherence to health and safety procedures
- The supervisor's role in ensuring compliance with legal and organisational requirements with respect to health and safety
Entry Qualifications and Progression
It would be an advantage, but not essential, to have taken the CIEH Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace prior to attending this course. Following this course you might wish to consider the CIEH Level 4 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace course.

Venue
Courses may be held in house at your premises. We appreciate that it is sometimes difficult to release staff on training courses, therefore we offer the flexibility to hold the course either on three consecutive days or one day a week spread over three weeks. We also regularly run public courses at our training centres.
Duration
The duration of the course is 3 days. We usually aim to start the course at 9am and finish by 5pm each day.
Assessment
There is a 60 question multiple-choice test and candidates are required to achieve 40 correct answers in order to receive a Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Level 3 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace. Candidates who achieve a score of more than 50 will be awarded a merit certificate. QCA Accredited.
