Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Awareness Training
Introduction
Hazardous substances in the workplace are a potential threat to the short and long term health of employees. Every year there are a significant number of accidents involving the use substances, in many cases these lead to permanent illness or injury and in some cases, death. This course focuses awareness on the need for safe use of hazardous substances within the workplace, and highlights the risks involved in dealing with such material.
Who will benefit?
All employees who are exposed to or regularly use, transport, handle or are exposed to the effect of hazardous substances.
Learning outcomes
To raise the awareness of employees to the hazards and risks associated with the safe handling and use of hazardous substances and the need to control their exposure. It will also ensure that they have an understanding of:
- Relevant legislation and risk assessments
- Control measures including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Emergency procedures
Programme
- An overview of relevant legislation
- Definition and classification of hazardous substances
- Routes of entry and potential effects on the body
- Introduction and understanding risk assessments
- Controlling risk
- Understanding Material Safety Data Sheets
- The use of Personal Protective Equipment
- Management of waste
Training Method
A mixture of PowerPoint presentation, syndicate exercises, DVD, interaction with course tutor and end of course test paper.
Duration
Half a day
We usually aim to start courses at 9am and finish by 12.30pm
