Moving and Handling People
Who will benefit?
This course is recommended for health care staff who have a responsibility for moving and handling of clients as part of their normal daily activities. The course follows a basic manual handling and lifting policy and includes guidance on using aids such as hoist and slings.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, candidates will be able to:
- Describe the principles of safe lifting
- Demonstrate kinetic handling and moving
- List basic legislation and the duties it imposes
- Understand the basics of anatomy and physiology of movement
- State the principles of risk assessment and how to apply them
Entry Qualifications and Progression
There are no entry qualifications for this course. Following this course you might wish to consider the CIEH Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in Health and Social Care.
Assessment
At the end of the course, candidates are assessed by a short multiple choice test and a practical assessment.

Venue
Courses are held at client’s premises using the client’s equipment to ensure that each candidate is trained in the correct use of the aids they may be called upon to use in the everyday work situation.
Duration
The duration of the course is 3 – 4 hours. We usually aim to start the course at either, 9.00am, 1.00pm or 5.00pm.
